In November each year we set about building a mini city for you to enjoy for one day only! The Foreshore site comes complete with food, bars, amusements, medical centers, market stalls, rides, big tents and even bigger stages, the Foreshore event site is a little bigger than your average school fete!
Constructing Foreshore is a pretty massive operation, taking over 12 months of planning for each show, we move over 50 semi trailer loads of gear on and off the site in under two weeks and build over 5000 Square meters of temporary structures and road way.

As you can imagine building the site and flying our artists and crew in for the show has the potential to create a fairly substantial environmental impact.
We are serious about reducing the environmental impact of our event, we do this in a number of ways that you may encounter while enjoying Foreshore 2011:
Recycling System
You will notice each drink you purchase will have a $1 container deposit charged on it. This will be refunded to you when you take it back to the recycling station along side of the bar.
The recycling process at Foreshore is simple:
- $1 container deposit will be placed on all beverage products sold at Foreshore
- When you finish your drink take the container back to one of the recycling stations located at the bars
- You will receive a $1 bar token for each container you bring back to the recycling station
- A maximum return of 10 drink containers is permitted per trip to the recycling station.

There will be two types of bins on the event site, Recycling and General Waste both marked clearly with examples of what is appropriate for each bin. Please separate all of your non-recyclable waste into the general waste bin so the recycling is not contaminated.
Remember there are no festivals on a dead planet! Think of the kids and please do the right thing with your waste at Foreshore, in the office and at home. Help us recycle and reuse as much event generated waste as possible.
The world has limited resources. We are taking steps to reduce the wastage our festival creates.

Carbon emission calculation
The event’s carbon emissions are calculated based on
- Food and drink consumption
- Patron travel to and from the event
- Flying our artists and crew into the city
- Accommodating artists and crew
- Freight to and from the event for our equipment
- Use of machinery on the site to build our mini party city
We offset the Festivals calculated carbon emissions with Climate Friendly. This funds renewable energy projects offsetting the unavoidable carbon our festival creates.
Protect Our Coral Sea
Foreshore is very happy to welcome the good people from the Protect Our Coral Sea organization to the event this year. You can find them in the market stalls area at the Kicks Stage, please go visit, make friends and sign their petition!
The Coral Sea is a tropical marine jewel which lies east of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It’s one of the last places on Earth where large marine animals can still be found in great numbers.
Yet less than 1% of this Serengeti of the Seas is protected, help protect our coral sea make a safe haven for marine life.
Right now the federal government is considering the future of the Coral Sea within Australian waters.
Kicks Entertainment and the Foreshore Festival urge you to help protect our Coral Sea and make the Coral Sea a safe haven for marine life.

Our environmental goals
- Reduce the amount of energy required to deliver our Festival. Energy that is used to put on the festival is 100% carbon offset through our friends at Climate Friendly
- We only allow recyclable materials on to the event site including all food and drink packaging
- To assist our patrons in offsetting their carbon emissions travelling to the festival by offering carbon offset tickets
- To reduce our energy consumption and waste in our offices by developing energy management policies and solid recycling systems
- To constantly monitor and measure our environmental impact, policies and systems with a view to continuously improve our environmental performance
Why do we do all this environmental stuff??
We understand the earth has limited resources and the global population is using them way too fast. We want to be able to use this amazing festival location long into the future and we want the trees around it to be alive!
We want everyone who comes to Foreshore to leave thinking about how they can reduce their day-to-day environmental impact in their everyday life at home and at work.
The glaciers are melting and the forests are disappearing. Lets all do something to fix it NOW!
